Getting Started with phpBB

Post by Dezzi »

So I'm graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering in about 3 weeks, and I'm interested in learning phpBB for work.

Few people realize how much communication takes place in the engineering world. With a forum-like structure; RFIs, Transmittals, Plan Revisions, etc, could be shared among many people at once without annoying phone calls, or unnecessary meetings. Furthermore, forums can be locked so that only certain people have access to sensitive information.

In short, I think it has a lot of potential to make life easier for me and my clients. I'd like to get my foot in the door, and start learning the software now, so I can slowly get more and more proficient with it.

I've already checked out: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=571070, and this should be plenty to get me through the basics. But web hosting and web design are a whole new ballpark for me. The last coding class I had was C++ way back in high school.

Any tips from the pros?
Common pitfalls I should watch out for?
Suggestions for getting started with web hosting?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
