Exercise Music

Post by Donjo »

I was just wondering what you guys listen to while you exercise. I tend to listen to different kinds of music depending on what I'm doing. I wouldn't listen to the same thing in the car as I would while playing WoW or doing homework so I bet that whatever gets me in the mood for running would also be different (I haven't started yet). So what do you find to be most motivational or distracting while exercising? Is it different from what you normally listen to?

I like just about everything, unless you're this guy: http://youtube.com/watch?v=TfbtCJ57TmY

I usually listen to anything fast paced when I'm at the gym. I listen to a lot of the same stuff when I'm *not* working out too, but I listen to a lot of other stuff as well. Gym music is purely fast-paced for me, I have lots of techno/dance type music on my gym playlist. iPod nano ftw.

I switch it up a lot, especially for running, since you tend to zone a lot, as opposed to lifting, etc. I usually bring full albums, sometimes mixes, for running, and mix genres. This week it's At the Gates, In Flames, and the new Smashing Pumpkins album, so a mix of melodic death and alternative. Honestly though, I can listen to trance, trip-hop, or pretty much anything while running. Any music that you enjoy normally, you'll probably like while running. If you need more "pump me up" music at first, go for heavier/faster, depending on your tastes. Killswitch Engage is also good for working out to. Once you get comfortable and find your pace, you're going to find that 90% of the time while running you're either zoned out, or checking out the milfs. I usually change the music on my player once a week or so, same as in the car, so once you find you can zone, just bring whatever. I try and keep the music in my car and for workout separate, so I don't get bored of the albums too fast :P

In general, I tend to have lighter metal/rap/trip-hop for running/elliptical/random cardio, and melodic death, etc for lifting. Also, my gym plays really gay music, so I would probably drop a barbell on my throat if I didn't have my own music with me. Also, depending on what kind of hair you have, the over the top of the head headphones will sometimes slip or slide on your head. I've moved to the neckband style recently, and those have been much better. http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/ca ... nsid=cat5e I don't really use earbuds anymore, as I used them way too much in high school, and played my music way too loud, so I'm trying to minimize the hearing loss now :P

I don't go to the gym.

When I go out late at night running however, I enjoy listening to the sounds of a 3 A.M. weekday college campus. Sometimes hilarious, but mostly quite soothing.

There are a lot of places around here that are very quiet, and I like to workout outdoors!

I just do pushups, situps, and run really... nothing too fancy at all. Listening to music when I do that stuff, I dunno....

Do any of you use the Nike + iPod setup? (http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/) It seems interesting and apparently you don't really need the cheesy nike shoes to go with it according to consumer reports. I don't have an iPod though so I can't test it out without an iPod investment first. The running is going well and I really seem to like it so I am thinking of investing in a better kind of setup.

Currently I use my phone http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/mobi ... zkao2u.asp but I can only use the default ear buds with it and they are pretty terrible. Half the time they fall out every few feet and when they do manage to stay in it is a poor fit and they don't sound that great either. I was thinking about getting a Plantronics Bluetooth Stereo Headset but the retail price is almost as much as a small iPod. I've tried those behind the ear headphones before and can't really get into them. I prefer earbuds on the go or full sized over-the-head studio style headphones when I'm at home.

man that movie really sucked, but I shit you NOT, I have that song on my workout playlist. I like to listen to the "Crank" soundtrack while I run, everytime the trix song comes on I try to sprint the entire length of it.
