The Human Abstract - Digital Veil

Post by greekrefugee »

Almost done listening to it for the first time. I've been waiting for this album for a while now. New vocalist, and their original lead guitarist back. I like the vocalist, better screams/growls than the original. I'm still not sure on the album as a whole. I can't tell if it's too much anticipation or what. It seems to lack a certain...edge...that the first album had. Less pronounced leads, and an overall polished sound, to the point of being artificial. And yet a lot of progressive death bands tend to make this shift, become somehow more progressive and less death. It's hard to articulate. I wish production methods weren't so tightly tied to genres. I love certain styles, but the same fucking guitar tone gets old. I liked their first album, Nocturne, because it managed to branch out a little more. His lead tone had a little more Hendrix dialed in. In any event, definitely worth a listen if you're into progressive death, metalcore, etc. \m/

Stand-out track: Complex Terms (Track 2)
